At Neighborhood Veterinary Centers Nederland, we believe in using every tool available to keep your pet comfortable and thriving—including modern, non-pharmaceutical options like laser therapy.
Also known as cold laser therapy, this treatment uses targeted light energy to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and accelerate healing—all without the need for medication or invasive procedures.
Laser therapy is safe, soothing, and effective for a wide range of acute and chronic conditions in pets. At NVC Nederland, we commonly prescribe it for:
Arthritis and joint pain
Hip or elbow dysplasia
Post-surgical recovery (orthopedic and soft tissue procedures)
Wound and injury healing
Tendon or ligament injuries
Dental inflammation or oral discomfort
Skin conditions and hot spots
If your pet is recovering from surgery or living with chronic discomfort, laser therapy may help them feel better without added medications.
Laser therapy must be prescribed by a veterinarian and is performed by a trained member of our team. Here’s how it works:
A small hand-held wand delivers painless light energy to the affected area.
The light penetrates deep into tissues to stimulate cellular activity.
This speeds up healing, improves circulation, reduces inflammation, and triggers endorphin release, which helps reduce pain.
Each session is carefully calibrated to your pet’s condition, and all participants—pets and people alike—wear protective eyewear during treatment to stay safe from the invisible laser beam.
Most pets relax or even fall asleep during treatment. The sensation is warm and gentle, similar to sunbathing on a calm day.
Many dogs and cats experience noticeable relief right away, especially those with arthritis or soft tissue injuries. You might see your pet walking more comfortably, getting up more easily, or simply seeming happier after just a few sessions.
Laser therapy plans are customized based on your pet’s condition:
Chronic conditions (like arthritis) often require more frequent treatments at first—about 2–3 times per week—then taper to maintenance sessions every few weeks.
Acute conditions (like wounds or post-op recovery) may benefit from daily or short-term treatments until healing is complete.
Your veterinarian will walk you through the schedule that’s best for your pet and adjust it based on how they respond.
Nope—laser therapy is completely painless, and pets stay awake and relaxed during the session.
Most sessions last between 5 to 20 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.
Give us a call or ask about it at your next visit. The team at NVC Nederland is happy to create a custom care plan that helps your pet feel their best.
